Frequently Asked Questions About Collision Repair Near You
Ottawa West Insurance & Rights
Does Simplicity Car Care Ottawa West do direct insurance billing?
Yes. We handle your insurance claim directly so you don’t have to act as a go-between. Once you bring your vehicle in, we communicate with your insurer, coordinate approvals, and submit all documentation on your behalf. You simply pay your deductible — we manage the rest. We are recognized by all major Ontario insurance providers.
Will my insurance rates go up if I make a collision repair claim?
This depends on your policy and fault determination. In Ontario, a not-at-fault accident generally does not increase your premiums, but this varies by insurer and your specific policy terms. We recommend speaking directly with your insurance broker before filing a claim for minor damage. For major collision damage, making a claim is almost always in your financial interest regardless of fault. We can help you understand what your repair estimate includes before you decide.
What does "OEM parts" mean, and will my insurance cover them?
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer — parts made by your vehicle’s manufacturer to factory specification. Insurance policies in Ontario typically allow insurers to use “like kind and quality” parts, which can mean used or aftermarket alternatives. However, you can request OEM parts, particularly if your vehicle is newer or under manufacturer warranty. We will document your request and advocate with your insurer on your behalf. Vehicles under one year old are generally entitled to OEM parts as standard.
What if my insurance estimate is lower than the actual repair cost?
This is called a “supplement” and it happens regularly — especially when hidden damage is found during disassembly. We submit supplement requests directly to your insurer with photos and documentation explaining the additional work required. Insurers are legally obligated to cover all necessary repairs to restore your vehicle to its pre-accident condition. You will never be asked to pay out of pocket for costs that are legitimately covered under your policy.
Ottawa West Services & Capabilities
What is ADAS calibration and do I need it after a collision?
ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems — the cameras, radar sensors, and lane-keeping systems built into most vehicles made since 2018. After any collision involving the front bumper, hood, windshield, or body panels near sensors, these systems must be recalibrated to manufacturer specification. Without recalibration, your automatic emergency braking, lane departure warnings, and adaptive cruise control may give false readings or fail entirely — creating a safety risk. We perform ADAS calibration as a standard part of every relevant repair and include it in your insurance estimate.
Can you repair my electric or hybrid vehicle after a collision?
Yes. We repair all makes and models including battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids. EV collision repair involves additional considerations — high-voltage system safety protocols, battery assessment for thermal damage, and a higher number of ADAS calibrations per repair compared to conventional vehicles. If you drive a Tesla, Hyundai Ioniq, Kia EV, Ford F-150 Lightning, or any other EV, please mention this when you call so we can confirm the appropriate equipment and certifications for your specific vehicle.
Do you offer paintless dent repair? (PDR)
Yes. Paintless dent repair is available at our Ottawa West location and is often the fastest, most cost-effective solution for minor dents — no sanding, no filler, no repainting. PDR works best on dents where the paint surface is undamaged, such as parking lot door dings, minor hail damage, and small panel dents. Bring your vehicle in for a free assessment and we’ll confirm whether PDR is suitable for your specific damage or whether traditional repair is needed.
Can you fix hail damage on my car?
Yes. Hail damage is one of our most common services, especially following Ottawa Valley snowbelt seasons. Most hail damage can be repaired using paintless dent repair (PDR), which restores your vehicle without repainting — preserving the factory finish and protecting resale value. For more severe hail damage where the paint surface is cracked or broken, we also offer traditional panel repair and repainting. Hail damage is typically covered under comprehensive insurance — we can confirm this with your insurer before any work begins.
Do you repair windshields and auto glass?
Yes. We offer windshield repair, full windshield replacement, side window repair, and rear window replacement for all vehicle makes and models. Glass work is often covered under your comprehensive insurance policy with no deductible depending on your coverage. Windshield replacement on modern vehicles also requires ADAS recalibration if a forward-facing camera is mounted to the glass — we include this as part of the replacement service.
Do you offer frame straightening for major collision damage?
Yes. Frame and unibody structural repair requires specialized equipment and certified technicians — our Ottawa West facility is equipped for full structural realignment. Frame damage left uncorrected affects your vehicle’s handling, safety systems, and long-term structural integrity. We use computerized measuring systems to restore your vehicle to manufacturer specifications and document all measurements for your insurance file. Every structural repair is covered under our national lifetime warranty.
Ottawa West After an Accident – What to Do
What should I do immediately after a collision in Ottawa West?
Stay calm and follow these steps:
1. Check for injuries — call 911 if anyone is hurt.
2. Move to safety — if the vehicle is driveable and it’s safe to do so, move it out of traffic.
3. Call police — in Ontario, you must report any collision causing injury or damage over $2,000 to police. For minor damage, you can self-report at a Collision Reporting Centre.
4. Exchange information — name, address, insurance provider, and policy number from all parties involved.
5. Document the scene — photograph all vehicles, damage, and the surrounding area.
6. Notify your insurer — report the claim as soon as possible.
7. Call us — contact Simplicity Car Care Ottawa West at 613-831-7500. You have the right to choose us as your repair shop regardless of who your insurer recommends.
My car isn't drivable after an accident - what to do?
If your vehicle cannot be safely driven, do not attempt to drive it — structural or suspension damage that isn’t visible can cause loss of control. Call our towing line at 1-800-871-7612 and we will arrange transport directly to our Ottawa West facility. While you wait, notify your insurance company of the accident and tell them you’ve chosen Simplicity Car Care Ottawa West as your repair shop. Your insurer is legally required to honour your shop choice.
How quickly can I bring my car in after an accident?
As soon as it is safe to do so — the sooner the better. Prompt repair prevents secondary damage: exposed metal rusts, compromised seals let in water, and damaged structural components can worsen under normal driving stress. You do not need to wait for your insurance company’s approval before bringing your vehicle in for an estimate. Walk in Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm, or call 613-831-7500 to let us know you’re coming. We’ll get the process started immediately.
Ottawa West Repair Process & Timelines
How long does collision repair take in Ottawa West?
Repair timelines depend on the severity of damage and parts availability:
Minor repairs (scratches, small dents, bumper scuffs): 2–3 business days
Moderate collision damage (panel replacement, paint work): 5–10 business days
Major structural or frame damage: 2–4 weeks
We provide real-time updates by email throughout your repair so you always know exactly where things stand. Parts availability — especially for certain EV and import models — can affect timelines, and we will notify you immediately if anything changes.
What happens step by step after I bring my car in?
Here’s exactly what to expect:
1. Free estimate — we inspect your vehicle and document all damage, typically within the same visit.
2. Insurance approval — we submit the estimate to your insurer and obtain authorization before any work begins.
3. Parts ordering — once approved, we order all required parts. OEM or approved alternatives are sourced from trusted suppliers.
4. Repair & paint — certified technicians complete structural, body, and paint work. ADAS sensors are recalibrated if required.
5. Quality inspection — every repair is inspected before delivery.
6. Vehicle return — we walk you through the completed repairs and answer any questions before you drive away.
Do I need an appointment for a free estimate?
No appointment is necessary for a damage estimate. Walk-ins are welcome Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm. You can also book a specific time online or by calling 613-831-7500 if you prefer a scheduled slot. Estimates are free and typically completed during your visit so you leave with written documentation of all damage and projected costs.
Will you keep me updated while my car is being repaired?
Yes. We send automatic email updates at every key stage of your repair — when parts arrive, when body work begins, when paint is applied, and when your vehicle is ready for pickup. You can also call us at any time at 613-831-7500 to speak with our team directly. We believe transparency throughout the process is non-negotiable.
Is my repair covered by warranty?
Yes. All repairs completed at Simplicity Car Care Ottawa West are backed by a national lifetime warranty for as long as you own the vehicle. This covers workmanship on body repairs, paint matching, and structural work. If you experience any issue related to our repair after you’ve driven away, bring the vehicle back and we will address it at no charge.

Costs vary significantly by damage type. As a general guide for the Ottawa West area:
Paint scratch repair: $150–$500
Bumper repair: $400–$1,200
Door dent or panel repair: $300–$900
Full panel replacement: $600–$1,800

"Hello Mark,
We fixed what was approved by your insurer.
Your vehicle had a failing unrelated prior damage repair that wasn't performed by us. We offered to help but hadn't heard back from you. If you'd still like us to look at it, we be happy to assist you.
Kind Regards,
Rick"
Once again you are coming up with excuses not fix the poor workmanship. Your comment about "prior damage" is completely false. If this were true why didn't you make a note of this prior to the repairs, well that is because there is no record of any prior accidents with my vehicle. Furthermore, when I returned to your shop to report the problems this claim of "Prior Damage" was not raised. The only thing you told me was " The claim was closed and insurance would not pay for more work"
Our insurance carrier Economical gave us a choice of several shops to have the repair performed. We chose Simplicity Stittsville as it was the closest to our home. When I contacted them I spoke with the Service Manager Rick. He took our information ordered the parts and when they arrived scheduled our repair. Upon dropping our CRV we were met by Enterprise rental agent who drove us to their agency and fixed us up with a nice new vehicle similar in model to ours. Simplicity repaired our vehicle in less time than estimated. The work was performed perfectly bringing our vehicle back to new condition. At that time Rick informed me that they performed other mechanical service repairs and if we chose to use Simplicities services again they would willing and able to perform the work.
Again, unfortunately last winter I decided to clean our CRVs back up camera lens with a with a soapy sanitary wipe. This was a mistake as the end result was a permanently foggy view from the back up camera. Let this be a lesson learnt to never use an alcohol wipe to clean any cameral lens.
Since we have now become dependent on this device, I contacted Simplicity again for an estimate on parts and labour. When we met Rick he initially tried a clean solution repair, unfortunately this was unsuccessful.
As in the first instance Rick ordered the parts and the Simplicity performed the repair at the time and cost estimated.
When I dropped the CRV for the repair the Cameron the Simplicity owner happened through the reception area. Cam took the time to thank me for returning to Simplicity Stittsville for the repair.
Thankyou to the team at simplicity for a job well done.
Regards Jim O'Shea
My insurance company sent me to Simplicity to have an estimate done to repair damage done to my 2017 Subaru Forester from the hail storm in August. Understandably, due to the number of cars damaged in the storm, the repairs weren't completed immediately and in the interim I made the decision to sell the vehicle. I reacher out to my insurer on December 13th to find out what steps would need to be taken to cancel the repair scheduled for January 9th. It is my understanding that the insurer reached out to Simplicity on December 28th to address the issue as the insurer had previously advanced Simplicity the payment for the anticipated repairs. I was told it would be up to me to negotiate and pay any cancellation fees prior to having my claim paid out. That same day I also received an email from Rick at Simplicity to confirm the repairs would be going ahead as anticipated. I let Rick know that the repairs would not be taking place due to the sale of the vehicle and inquired as to what a cancellation of the repairs would entail. At this time I was told there would be significant cancellation fees but no amount was provided.
Not having heard back from Rick as to the amount of cancellation fee, I visited Rick at his premises on December 29th. He explained that he already purchased parts and that he already booked a specialist to come in to repair the dimples caused by the hail. It turned out that the parts purchased, was actually one part, being the left rear tail light assembly. He agreed at that time to get back to me with a firm amount to resolve this issue, which he did on January 2nd, the amount of the cancellation fee was $856.87 which included about $400 for the part that was purchased and not returnable.
I requested that if I was required to pay for the part, I would like to pick it up and have the option of reselling it to recover some of the cost. Upon returning home from picking up the taillight, I noted that the box was marked with a "Tran Date" of December 29, 2023. This "Tran Date" on the label is subsequent to the date that Simplicity was informed that there was an issue with the scheduled repair.
I was surprised that body shops do not have relationships with their vendors that would allow the return of a frequently sold part such as a tail light. I was also surprised that the parts (especially those that can not be restocked) would be purchased so far in advance of the anticipated repair date.
Rick said that he already scheduled a specialist to remove the damage from the hail storm and that there would be a cancellation fee for the subcontractor as well which was about $300. There has been enough damage done to vehicles across the city from that same hail storm, that I find it difficult to understand how a specialist in that business cannot just schedule another job with 12 days notice. At the time the estimate was made, Rick had mentioned that the hail storm caused enough damage to keep the specialist busy with repairs for 3 years. I know many automobile owners who would be thrilled to get their hail damage repair done sooner than later.
Unfortunately, as I had already made arrangements to sell the vehicle, I had to pay the full $857 cancelation fee in order to settle my claim with the insurer as the funds were needed for the purchase of the new vehicle and they required me to settle with Simplicity prior to the claim being paid out.
I feel that the amount of the cancellation fee of almost $900 was quite a lot to pay to NOT have your vehicle repaired with almost 2 weeks advance notice to the shop and I am very concerned by the date on the shipping label on the part that was subsequent to Simplicity being alerted to the cancellation of the repairs. I am hoping that by providing this review potential customers can be aware that Simplicity charges such significant cancellation fees before booking services.
Highly recommend them.
If ever need my car repaired again, I will be back.
Great team!
Cameron, thank you!
